Our house has two bathrooms. My teenage son has claimed one as "his" and gets grouchy when someone else uses it.

Tonight I suddenly remembered I was out of bread. I ran out to the store. When I got home, teenage son was sitting in the den watching TV. It's quiet. (hmmmmmm...) I asked where younger son was. He's in the bathroom.

I went to the kitchen to unpack groceries. A few minutes later I'm headed back to the garage and I see my teenager in front of the bathroom door fooling with the doorknob. Go for a closer look and discover the doorknob is OFF the door. Door won't open. Younger son is trapped inside. I'm wondering what the heck is going on. If he's trapped inside, why haven't I heard anything? No shouts, no knocking, nothing.

So... after younger son is released from the bathroom and I hear all the stories, this is how it shakes out....

While I'm gone, Son #2 needs to use the bathroom. Son #1 (the teenager with the propritarial bathroom issues) says no way, go upstairs. Son #2 refuses, runs to the bathroom, locks the door, and does his business. Meanwhile, Son #1 grabs his Swiss Army knife and starts taking off the doorknob so he can... I dunno, drag Son #2 kicking and screaming out of the bathroom while he's in the process??

Then it happens. Door is stuck. Can't get it open. Can't get the knob back on. Both of 'em are frantically operating on the door -- when Mom drives up. YIKES!! Son #1 picks up tools. Dives for the sofa in the den just as Mom comes thru the door. Son #2 is being quiet as a mouse so Mom won't discover him trapped in the bathroom. (What? They think they'll just lay low until I go to sleep??)

Sheesh....

So now Son #1 has lost the use of his knife for a few, and he's grounded. Plus he spent 30 minutes putting the doorknob back together and making it work.

And I had to go in the other room. I didn't know which to do first: have a good laugh or pound my head against the wall!
